There is work for models of all different looks, shapes, sizes, styles, and everything else in between.
The key to being a good model, is being able to pose, and take instruction and produce good looking results in the ways you move.
The models I have worked with are pretty low on the totem pole, no big "super" models, so a lot less crap is taken from them. They might have the look, but if they cant model/pose or take instruction, we toss them and get someone who can.
scikerz Is right on his points.

I used to shoot for a modeling agency. A very small agency.
It doesn’t really matter what you look like. These days with all the niche markets just about anyone can be a model.
I’ve shot about 100 models, mostly women and of those maybe three would be successful. Not only because of their looks but the way they are in front of a camera. Models need to have an ‘ease’ in front of the camera.
An ability to be natural and emote.
Most aren’t able to lose themselves and trust the photographer.
That hampers a good photo session.
I think either you’ve got it, or you don’t. It doesn’t seem like it is something that can be learned.
DON’T INVEST A LOT OF MONEY TO START WITH!
Four images on a composite card are all you need.
A close up
A profile
A full length
A 3/4
Good Luck.
